The Oral and Written Torah

While we normally conceive of the Jews as the people of the book, this is in many ways a misnomer. While the Written Torah may be given by God, it is the Oral Torah that is of central importance. For Rosenzweig, the Written Torah is always lacking until at his been turned into speech, the living word of God.
