Rav Shagar and the Otherness of the Chanukah Candles

This short reflection draws upon Rav Shagar’s understanding of holiness as a form of otherness. Just as we cannot use the light of the Chanukah candles for our own benefit, so too holiness must be conceived as that which we cannot subsume within ourselves but rather remains other.
